TWIN Valley Homes apprentice painter and decorator Kyle Catterall has scooped another top award at the Regional Skillsbuild finals.

The Accrington and Rossendale College student came first in the senior painting and decorating section regionals at Burnley College after scooping the top prize in the new entrant section last year.

Kyle, 23, from Guide, has won several prizes over the past couple of years and will be hoping to improve on his fourth place in the National Skillsbuild finals at the NEC in Birmingham later in the year.

SkillsBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the country for construction trainees and apprentices.

In the painting and decorating section, entrants are given a blank wall and design and expected to draw it to scale.

This year’s theme was based around the 2014 World Cup, in Brazil.

Kyle said: “I was really proud to win the regionals again.

“It is a tough competition but I’m really hoping to make it through to the national finals again.

“But I couldn’t have done it without all the help and support from the people at Twin Valley Homes. I’ve received the best training and some opportunities that I could only have dreamed of and my success is down to them.”

Alison Clews, skills and enterprise co-ordinator, said: “His design was outstanding and he showed all the skills and expertise he’s developed in his day job.”
