Inquest into death of Burnley teenager Declan Edwards opened

Lancashire Telegraph: Declan Edwards Declan Edwards

THE inquest into the death of Burnley teenager Declan Edwards has been opened.

The 16-year-old youngster was found in woodland at Rowley Park last Thursday afternoon.

Declan, a pupil at Unity College, was reported missing on May 3 after last being seen making his way home from Towneley Park to Waddington Avenue around 2pm.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the cause of death was found to be hanging.

Martin Hall, Burnley coroner’s officer, said: “Even though we have been given a cause of death, there are still some samples to be taken.”

The full inquest will be heard on August 19.

A pathologist has been contacted to carry out more tests. Statements are due to be taken and the coroner is waiting for the police investigation to be closed.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Declan’s death.

It's so sad that someone so young lost their life. I don't know about the circumstances regarding his death and reading the news report it seems he could no longer carry on. My heart and many others hearts I am sure go out to whoever he has left behind. In this world we are so quick to criticise or to judge but why are people not more tolerant to each other and be close when we need to be. Hopefully less young lives would be lost as they would have somebody to turn to. It's a shame that Declan and indeed others feel the need to loose their lives in a similar way. They should be at peace whilst they were still living rather than everyone saying rest in peace once they are gone. Life is so precious we should all help each other to keep it in all places and at all times.
