A SCIENTIST brought up in Burnley has won a top award for his work.
Professor Pete Dowding has been named the UK Royal Society for Chemistry’s (RSC’s) winner of The Inspiration and Industry Award 2014.
The inspiration and industry award recognises the contribution of an individual in industry to the outreach, promotion or teaching of the chemical sciences.
Working at Infineum’s business and technology centre in Milton Hill, Oxfordshire, Professor Dowding is lead technologist in colloid science, and has been with the company for 13 years. He said: “I’m incredibly flattered and humbled. We do the best we can, and for the scientific community to recognise that is a huge encouragement.
“I grew up in Burnley in and went to a normal state school. I remember my careers advisor telling me to get a job at the local DIY store. At each step of the way I was told I would fail.”
