FIREFIGHTERS were called to try to help a horse that could not stand.

They went to Peersclough Farm, in Peers Clough Road, Lumb, around 8.20am  to assist the 18-year-old mare.

But a spokeswoman for the farm said the efforts had been in vain.

She said: “We have not managed to make any improvements and are waiting for somebody to put the horse to sleep.”
