A BURGLAR who went on the run for 11 days after breaching a curfew for burglary has been jailed for 29 months.

The town’s crown court heard Jamie Gilchrist, 19, who was challenged by a next-door-neighbour, was a ‘three strike’ offender, facing a minimum of three years behind bars, minus credit for his guilty plea.

A 50 -inch TV, XBox console and games, worth £1,500 were taken. Gilchrist was seen carrying the console out of the Willow Street property, last June 19.

Gilchrist, of Lubbock Street, Burnley, who three years ago was given an anti-social behaviour order after making life 'unbearable' for Burnley Wood residents, admitted burglary and escape.

He was arrested on June 21 and said he was present, but others were responsible.

He was bailed on a curfew, breached it and police went to arrest him on August 8.

As he was walking out to the police car and about to be put in it, he shouted to the police that they were not going to put him in a cell and ran off.

He was on the run for 11 days and on August 25, was found at his uncle 's property on Kent Street, Burnley.

The defendant tried to escape through a window. He said he had cut off his handcuffs with bolt cutters.
