FUNDRAISERS who helped raise more than £500,000 for a cancer charity in memory of two sisters will see them further remembered.

Jeanette Parkes, 58, began fundraising for Macmillan 25 years ago, along with her sister Barbara Donohoe and sister-in-law Barbara King, as a way of thanking the nurses that cared for their sister Marie, who died from breast cancer aged 34 in the early 70s.

When Barbara, then 60, was diagnosed with terminal eye cancer, the trio almost disbanded their Hyndburn Fundraising Committee.

But after Accrington’s Peel Park Hotel co-owner Susan Johnson took the helm as chairperson, the group has gone on to raise more than £500,000.

It was at one of their charity auctions last year, held to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary, that Eddie Stobart donated the chance to name one of their lorries.
