A TEAM of fundraisers pulling a barge along the length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal will stop off in Pendle next week.

The ten-strong team set off from Sunday for the 127-mile trip, which aims to break a world record and raise funds for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

The trek has been organised by Emma Fisher and Dave Jafrate, whose sister Julie Robinson died of small cell lung cancer in 2011. It is due to end at Clarence Dock in Leeds on Saturday May 10.

The Mayor of Pendle, Coun Smith Benson, will be waiting to greet the team at Barrowford Locks at 4.30pm on Wednesday, May 7.

Dave said: “We’re looking forward to seeing people coming out to cheer us on.

“If any of them wanted to bring us some cake, it would certainly spur us on even more.”

Emma added: “It’s a crazy challenge, the equivalent of five marathons in six days, and our message would be to please come down and see for yourself.”

Their efforts have received a letter of support from The Queen as well as a host of dignitaries and sports teams.
