HEALTH workers said a new scheme to offer free vitamin D supplements will provide a huge health benefit to East Lancashire.
Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust is set to provide tablets to all children under the age of six, as well as pregnant, postnatal and breastfeeding women. Those on low incomes will also be offered milk, fresh fruit and vegetables.
Halima Laheri of the trust, said: “Throughout the UK there is a high vitamin D deficiency among adults and children. The Healthy Start Vitamin Scheme is a great way for anyone in the higher risk groups to get access to vitamins that are essential for strong bone development and the absorption of calcium.”
