A HOST of former Clarets heroes are set to turn out against Haslingden St Mary’s in a charity match this Sunday.
Former Turf Moor favourites Frank Sinclair, Ade Akinbiyi and David Eyres are among those who will feature in the Vintage Clarets side, at Haslingden’s Surridge Stadium, in Townsend Street.
Sinclair, now manager of Conference North club Colwyn Bay, where Akinbiyi is a coach, will be making his debut for the ex-professionals.
Legendary Clarets winger Leighton James was due to guest as manager of the team, but can no longer make the event after suffering a stroke in Swansea, on Sunday.
Organiser Gary Rishton said he hoped the game would act as a promotion party after Burnley secured their place in the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Monday. Burnley fan Justin Dyson will also take part in the game after he won a competition to play alongside his idols.
George Oghani, Roger Eli, Phil Eastwood, Jamie Hoyland, Paul Weller, Vince Overson and John Deary, who will captain the side, are also expected to play for the Clarets.
Kick off is at 2pm, and entry is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions.
