POLICE have been called to the scene of an accident in Blackburn Road, Haslingden.

A car is believed to have clipped an elderly lady who was crossing the road.

She was taken to hospital in an ambulance but was not thought to have sustained serious injuries.

Officers have taped off the corner of Dale Street and Blackburn Road, but the road has remained open.

A number of police cars and officers were seen in the area causing members of the public to gather at the scene.

But Insp Graham Lister said: "It is only a minor road traffic accident."

It might only be minor to the Inspector but the old lady will have suffered shock. If a police officer had been hit it would count as a major incident.
