SEVERAL Easter events are planned for East Lancashire this bank holiday weekend.

The sun is expected to shine for most of the weekend as families visit attractions and events to take advantage of the four-day break.

Funfair rides, candy floss and games stalls have taken over Witton Park in Blackburn, where a funfair is being held until Monday.

The fair is the largest in Lancashire, with more than 50 rides and attractions.

Nicholas Hill of fairground organiser The Showmen's Guild said he had been working closely with the council to host the fair, as building work has been ongoing at the park’s new athletics arena.

He said: “Local families can enjoy all the fun of the fair again this Easter.”

Dowsons Farm at Clayton-le-Dale is hosting numerous activities from tomorrow until Monday, including egg and spoon races, best decorated egg and colouring competitions, and an Easter egg hunt.

Co-owner Amanda Dowson said: “We will be carrying on with our very successful ‘lambing live’ programme and our petting centre will be open throughout.”

The Britannia Coco-Nut Dancers will perform annual Easter Saturday procession through Bacup and Stacksteads, and an Easter Vigil will be held from 11am at the Place de Creil in Nelson.

The Wellbeing Farm, in Plantation Road, Edgworth, is hosting an afternoon of fun, with visitors making their own Easter treats and joining an egg hunt, from 1pm to 3pm tomorrow.

Queen Street Mill, in Harle Syke, Burnley, is offering tours of its working steam engine and looms from noon to 4pm tomorrow, and a free Easter trail from noon to 5pm from tomorrow until Monday.

In Clitheroe, an Easter service will be held from 10am tomorrow at St Paul’s Church, followed by a procession to the castle gates.

Libraries in Darwen, Livesey, and Mill Hill are all planning events throughout the day tomorrow, while HAPPA, in Black House Lane, Briercliffe is hosting a fun day from 1pm to 3pm.

Oswaldtwistle Mills is holding an Easter egg hunt from 10am to noon and from 1pm to 3pm tomorrow and Monday.
