Lancashire Telegraph: Barrowford supermarket wants longer opening hours Barrowford supermarket wants longer opening hours

A SUPERMARKET set to open in Barrowford is seeking to extend its opening hours.

The Morrisons ‘M Local’ store, at the former petrol station in Gisburn Road, currently has permission to open from 7am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

But bosses are now seeking permission to open from 6am to 11pm seven days a week.

Twenty-one objections have been received to their proposal, but council planning officers have recommended that the alterations to the opening hours be approved.

The supermarket was recently given permission for a licence to sell alcohol at the store, despite a petition signed by more than 200 people calling for that to be refused.

Local shopkeepers in the village are concerned that the supermarket could put them out of business.

Councillors on the Barrowford Area Committee will make a decision tonight.
