A STACKSTEADS pub is to be demolished to make way for houses, despite protests from regulars.
The Hare and Hounds, in Newchurch Road, will be knocked down to make way for four homes after owners Calco Pubs Ltd said the pub was making a loss.
Ten residents objected to the proposals, saying too many pubs in the area were closing and that the pub was popular, and claiming that it was a historically important place.
They also felt the designs for the homes were not in keeping with the area.
The plans were approved by all members of the council’s development control committee, apart from councillors Jackie Oakes and Granville Morris, who voted against.
