TWO Blackburn College students will be passing on the views of the young on health services in the borough after being selected to join the Blackburn with Darwen Healthwatch board.

Anmol Mulla, 18, who is on the cadet programme studying a Level Three Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, and Mahek Chishti, 16, also Level Three Extended Diploma Health and Social Care student, were chosen after applying for the position.

Blackburn College chairman Sir Bill Taylor, who is also chairman of the Blackburn with Darwen Healthwatch Board, spoke to students about the benefits and requirements of the role and both Anmol and Mahek went through a lengthy process to be selected.

Blackburn College health and social care lecturer Neil Smith said: “The pair will attend Healthwatch events and also board meetings to represent young people’s views on health services in the borough.”

Every local authority has a Healthwatch organisation with the aim to improve local provision by gathering people’s views on and experience of the way health and social care is delivered in their area.

Anmol wants to become a nurse and has already been accepted into Kings College, London.
