IT is almost 100 years since Bert Freeman fired the Clarets to glory in the 1914 FA Cup final against Liverpool.
And now Burnley fans, hopeful of a return to the Premiership being confirmed this month, can re-live the glory at a new exhibition opening today.
On Saturday, April 25, 1914, the club celebrated its first momentous achievement, when the Clarets won the Cup for the only time in their history, beating the Reds 1-0.
And the 1914 exhibition, to be staged at Burnley’s Towneley Hall, offers fans the chance to see artefacts and memorabilia from the victory.
A club spokesman said: “For the first time, a very important piece of the club’s history and heritage, recently acquired by the club, is set to go on display. The game’s winning goalscorer, ex-Evertonian Bert Freeman’s match shirt will form the centrepiece, alongside his winners’ medal.”
Fans will also be treated to the first public viewing of the replica shirt being worn by the current Burnley team in their anniversary fixture and final home game of the Championship season, against Ipswich Town on Saturday, April 26.
Admission is free for Burnley residents.
