Sign hospital units petition, urges Burnley MP

Lancashire Telegraph: Gordon Birtwistle MP Gordon Birtwistle MP

BURNLEY MP Gordon Birtwistle has urged residents to sign an online petition that calls for two ‘top-class units’ at Burnley Hospital.

The Lib Dem MP said: “I said in 2010 that I wouldn’t give up the fight to improve hospital services in Burnley. Since then we’ve got an ambulance service back, improved out-of-hours GP services, and now, this fantastic new unit.

“But I don’t want things to stop there and that’s why I need your help.

“Firstly, an ophthalmologic – or eye - clinic which will allow specialist eye treatments.

“This £10million unit will also play a key role in the early identification of tumours as changes inside the eye can be an early indicator of such conditions.

“And secondly, a new £5million surgical unit which will provide improved facilities for patients across East Lancashire.”

Truth will out says...

Can we sign a petition that gets the A&E back for the Burnley and Pendle area? How about putting that on the site?

I think most people would prefer that over a specialist eye unit.

I remember signing one of Mr Birtwistle's 'bring back our A&E' petitions and a fat lot of good it did.

Oh, hang on though, it got Mr Birtwistle elected and not long after he said our A&E services would not be coming back to Burnley General. And what do we have now, yep, another petition, and why, because the next General Election is just over 12 months away.

Our politicians will only ever gain our respect once they stop taking us for fools.

Don't forget who got rid of our A&E, our beloved Labour party. Gordon has had to try to undo the damage that they did to our town.
