A BODY has been found in a remote area behind Whalley Golf Course.

The discovery was made on Tuesday evening in the area of Wiswell Moor Quarry.

The identity of the body is not yet known but police have confirmed it was that of a man in his fifties from the Ribble Valley.

The body of the man, who is believed to have been a walker, was later taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

A police spokesman has said that there was nothing to suggest that this death was suspicious at this time and inquiries were ongoing.

He also said that a postmortem examination is to take place and the death is still being treated as unexplained.

The Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team was called to the scene by Lancashire Police who transported the body down to the golf club before being stood down at 12.30am.
