A COMMUNITY group in Fence has received funding from Pendle county councillor Christian Wakeford to hold a fete this summer.

Fence United received £836 from County Coun Wakeford’s local member fund.

Cath Nutter, chair of Fence United, said: “The procession and fete activities on the school grounds are designed to bring the people of Fence and surrounding villages together.

It’s in an event which they can all take part, uniting the different generations and the various activity groups in our village.

“We hope to create a greater sense of community in our village and at the same time raise funds for the different village activity groups, and especially to try to raise funds to refurbish and modernise the children’s playground.

“This latter project has become a focus for many of the village groups and is expected to unify the village in a common cause.”
