SELECTIVE licensing schemes for housing landlords are set to be introduced in two new areas in Burnley.

The scheme has been running for several years in Trinity, but is now set to expand into Queensgate, Duke Bar, and Gannow.

Councillors on Burnley Council’s economic regeneration committee will discuss the schemes later this month, with the final decision signed off by the council’s executive committee in April.

The council has consultated residents and landlords on the selective licensing scheme.

Clare Jackson, the council’s private sector housing manager, said: “The council proposes to designate a Selective Licensing area in these areas of Burnley because the area is experiencing significant low housing demand, and the local authority is satisfied that designating an area will, when combined with other measures, lead to improved social and economic conditions in the area.”
