RAMSBOTTOM businesswoman Elizabeth Clark will fly the flag for the North West at a technology awards ceremony for women.

Elizabeth, chief executive of Manchester-based technology transfer company Design Agility, is the region’s only representative in the 2014 FDM Every woman in Technology Awards.

She will travel to London tomorrow for the event, which recognises ‘the talent of women creating, advancing and deploying technology across the UK’.

Elizabeth, whose firm builds and markets websites and mobile applications, is a finalist in the Start-up Founder of the Year category.

The 43-year-old said: “I was one of only a handful of girls in a year of 100-plus undergraduates in engineering and years later I’m still shocked to see how few girls are making it on to engineering and computer science degrees.

“Girls use as much technology as boys. We’re not doing enough to educate them in all the choices available to them.

“The Every woman in Technology Awards are a great way to get the message out to our girls.”

Elizabeth was the first woman in its 120-year history to sit on the Lancashire Engineering Employers’ Federation’s executive board.
