PENDLE residents are being reminded to only put out their brown bins for emptying when absolutely necessary.

If they are half full or less, they are asked to wait until their next collection.

Coun John David, who represents the council’s refuse and recycling teams, said: “If Pendle people only put out their brown bins when they are half full or more, this can help us to make our collection rounds more efficient.

“Our vehicles will still cover the same routes, but by reducing the number of times the bin lifting equipment has to work we will reduce engine revving and ultimately lower our carbon footprint whilst saving money on fuel costs.”

Residents are asked to consider how much recycling is in their brown bins before wheeling them out.
