A FREE ‘Food For Thought’ weight loss programme kicked-off in Hyndburn last week.

The scheme, run by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, aims to tackle the borough’s obesity problem by supporting people in making healthier lifestyle choices.

It is open to all men and women in the borough over the age of 16.

More than a quarter of adults in Hyndburn are classed as obese and are therefore at a higher risk of developing conditions including diabetes and heart disease, as well as mental health problems such as depression.

Laura Chetwood, Fit Squad Advisor at Lancashire Care, said: “Food For Thought really is a programme with a difference and aims to help people set achievable goals to eat more healthily and identify feasible and enjoyable ways to stay active.

“The programme is tailored specifically for your own needs and aims to provide solutions to help you manage your weight in the longer term.

“The groups offer a supportive and relaxed environment where people feel they can develop healthy habits in a positive atmosphere without judgment.”

There are still places available on courses in Accrington, Clayton-le-Moors and Great Harwood. For further information contact the team on 01254 283340.
