RESIDENTS who have created a fly-tipping nightmare for a Blackburn community, which sparked a rats infestation, should now be prosecuted.

That’s the view of fed-up Mill Hill councillor Carol Walsh, who has spoken out after the latest dumping episode behind Victoria Street.

Around 40 bin bags stuffed with household refuse, and a huge mound of rubbish, were left behind the terraced properties.

And Coun Walsh is now hopeful that court action will be taken against the fly-tippers after evidence was gathered from some of the refuse sacks which may point towards possible culprits. Coun Walsh said: “This has been going on for years and the majority of people who live in Victoria Street, and the surrounding area, are fed up.

“When we lifted up some of the bags, there were rats running around.

“It’s horrible for the council lads that have got to come out and deal with this.

“This area was only cleaned up around two weeks ago and this is what has happened.

“It is local residents that have been doing this, and hopefully there will be prosecutions.

“I have only been on the council for around two years, but I am constantly getting complaints about this, and enough is enough.”

Council environmental health bosses confirmed that they immediately sent out a team to remove the latest mounds of rubbish after the problem was reported.
