CLARETS fans far and wide took to social media to express their delight at Burnley’s historic derby win.

Facebook and Twitter were awash with glowing tributes to Sean Dyche’s men, from those who had been at the game and those who watched from afar.

London Claret Iain Montgomery, who stumbled across another exiled Burnley fan in the capital, tweeted: “Just walked home from Bermondsey tube hearing a little girl shout: ‘Come on Burnley’. Bless her.”

Over the Pennines, Leeds-based supporter Jamie Smith was dreaming of promotion.

He said: “Eight points clear of Derby. If we don’t go up from here, it doesn’t bear thinking about.”

Meanwhile, Burnley diehard Richard Sutcliffe was getting emotional. He said: “Had to leave the pub because of tears streaming down my cheeks. Thanks for everything Burnley FC.”

Former Padiham St Leonard’s Primary School headteacher Julie Bradley, now executive head at The Olive School in Blackburn, said she was looking forward to visiting Blackburn on Wednesday. She said: “Just watched Danny Ings’ reaction when he scored. It meant so much to him.”

Colin Meredith, in Rochdale, said he was working during the match and turned his phone off to avoid finding out the score.

Later on, he tweeted: “Just watched the game after work. What an amazing season this is! How many more records and unbeaten runs can we break?”

Jonathon Nixon, from Colne, was also in celebratory mood. He said: “Just cracked open a bottle of Châteauneuf to savour the moment of this momentous day.”
