CHILDREN from across East Lancashire found novel ways of enjoying World Book Day yesterday.
Schools across the area held special events to celebrate the popular day, which always takes place on the first Thursday of March.
Traditionally youngsters dress up as their favourite characters from the books they enjoy for a day at school, with reading and writing top of the agenda for the day.
At Cedars Primary School, in Hawthorne Street, Blackburn, they celebrated the day with a nod to one of the most iconic children’s books, the Wizard of Oz, which was first published in 1900.
Youngsters dressed as Wizard of Oz characters and made yellow bricks, which they then laid between the upper and lower school buildings to form a ‘yellow brick road’.
