HEALTH commissioners said they will work with Lancashire’s mental health trust to reduce the waiting times for dementia diagnoses.

As revealed in the Lancashire Telegraph, the average waiting time for East Lancashire is 18 weeks, while patients in many other areas only wait six weeks.

Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is the lead commissioner for Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, which provides the Memory Assessment Services.

A CCG spokesman said: “Dementia has a huge impact on indivduals, and their families. Improving the diagnosis, and treatment, of dementia is one of our key priorities. We are working closely with those who provide these services with the aim of shortening waiting times, and improving early treatment, particularly closer to home in the community.”
