MORE than 50 brave souls challenged themselves to a firewalk last night in aid of Blackburn Youth Zone.

They took part in the daredevil stunt hoping to raise at least £10,000 for the Lancashire Telegraph-backed Teen Leaders appeal.

The appeal aims to raise £60,000 to train and develop a further 100 young leaders at the youth zone. The firewalk involved walking barefoot across a 15ft path of burning embers where temperatures reach 600 degrees Celsius.

Sarah Johns, 36, said: “It wasn’t as painful as I thought it was going to be.

“The cold tarmac after you have done the walk is actually the worst bit.

“Seeing people go before be spurred me on and it’s for a great cause.”
