POLICE surrounded a house in Norfolk Close, Clayton-le-Moors tonight after a suspect evading police capture fled onto a roof.
The man, thought to be 26, climbed onto the roof at around 6.30pm when officers came to arrest him, for what was believed to be a breach of his prison license.
The man said he did not why police had come to arrest him and so fled to the roof to evade capture.
His mother was at the scene urging him to come down, but he refused her request.
A large police cordon was in place around the area, but a crowd of the man's friends stood just beyond the line and he was communicating with them and his family by mobile phone.
A number of objects were also thrown from the roof but landed inside the police cordon
