A MATHS teacher will be swapping trigonometry for trainers when he takes part in a marathon.

Jon Howarth, who teaches at Haslingden High School, was contacted by the Christie Hospital to run the Manchester event after he collected £1,000 for the charity running the marathon in 2012.

Mr Howarth said: “After half term I will be fundraising in school and I am aiming to raise another £1,000 for the charity.

“Everyone knows of someone, either friends or family, who has been affected by cancer.

“I have lost a couple of my family members in the past and a couple of my friends in the last year.

“The work they do at the Christie is brilliant and it has always been the charity I run for. If I can make a little bit of difference in memory of my family and friends then I am happy to do so.”

Last time Mr Howarth completed the marathon, it took him 3hr 59 min.
