DARWEN MP Jake Berry has urged residents to sign a petition calling for Bailey’s Field to be protected from over-development ahead of next week’s deadline.

The campaign was launched after Darwen residents raised concerns about Blackburn with Darwen Council’s decision to earmark it as a develpment site for 500 houses.

Mr Berry said: “There are just a few more days left to show everyone that Bailey’s Field should be protected from over-development.

“Hundreds of people from across Darwen have supported the petition so far and I would urge as many people as possible to sign it.

“Anyone who lives in Darwen will tell you that this site is not suitable for such a massive development.”

To sign the petition, visit www.protectbaileysfield.tk or call 01254 701258 for a paper copy. The petition will be presented to council bosses next week.

The planning inspectorate has made it clear that it won't accept folk just saying ''we don't want these houses here''. An alternative site has to be provided. So where in Darwen does Jake Berry suggest the 400 allocation be ?
I heard one of the campaigners say 'Blacksnape'. Does Mr Berry agree ? Are Blacksnape Playing Fields under threat because Mr Berry refuses to state an alternative site ??
His silence has been deafening, despite being asked on more than one occasion.

Take note: this is why you don't elect politicians, like Jake Berry, from outside the area!

Everyone with half a brain cell knows it will never be developed. There are mines galore under there. Due to this, Blackburn with Darwen's town planners have actually been clever for once- they've stopped 400 unneeded homes
from being built.

Totally agree Gazdula
Unfortunately, Jake doesn't see this. He is asking his constituents to vote against a policy drawn up by his government, without a viable alternative. In the process he has gained many, many email addresses to put on his database together with the ones from people reporting potholes and the inevitable fly tipping campaign.
He preys on, and fuels people's fears.
Cold canvassing by email to follow - good folk, you have been warned !
You have just let a politician into your personal domain.

Jake Berry is being dishonest with folk. Did he tell them that Bailey's Field has been allocated for housing (that will prob not be built - see comments above) since at least 1995 ?
*
Did he tell them that if the allocation for Bailey's Field was excluded then another site for 400 homes must be allocated - entirely due to his Govts policies ?
*
Why does he not tell folk where he wants an allocation of 400 homes ? Does he agree with one of the campaigners that suggested Blacksnape Playing Fields, which is within the Green Belt ?
*
C'mon Mr Berry - please let us know !

Saw Mr Berry on C4 news tonight. Came across as very arrogant. Completely ignoring the other guest (seemed he couldn't give a toss what she had to say) and speaking in a fake southern accent. Bring on May 2015.

The Council has been clever chargreaves. By allocating a site (since 1995 remember) that probably won't be developed means that it does not have to allocate an alternative site (such as Blacksnape) that would probably be developed.
*
As a result of the Council's policies no alternative is needed, - if Mr Berry has his way then an alternative would be needed. Simples !
