PROPOSALS for 30 new homes for the elderly in Colne have been outlined by housing association bosses.

Land between the eastern end of Broken Banks and Carry Lane has been identified by the Peter Birtwistle Trust for the possible development.

Around a dozen new bungalows for older people have been pencilled in for the field below Peter Birtwistle Close.

And according to plans, the bottom portion of the site would be sold off to a second developer for a further 18 general homes.

Coun Tony Greaves, who detailed the plans the latest edition of his Waterside newsletter, said: “At this stage they are just sketch plans. If the scheme turns out to be viable the trust will need to submit a planning application to Pendle Council.”

The housing association currently operates from five sites in the Colne area and caters for people aged 60 or over. Residents must also have lived in the Colne district for 10 years or more to qualify for a property.

Their developments include Birtwistle Close and Birtwistle Fold, which would be near neighbours of the prospective new arrival, Standroyd Bungalows, Hyde Park and flats on Keighley Road.

And it also operates the Peter Birtwistle Community Centre, also located in Keighley Road, which is home to everything from Colne Camera Club and a branch of Age UK to bingo, bridge, local history and yoga sessions.
