A GROUP set up a year ago to help get people fit through running is booming, according to organisers.

Darwen Running Group members celebrated the group’s first birthday on Monday when they met at the leisure centre for their regular run. And Sarah Roberts, who founded the Run England-backed group aimed at beginners, said from an initial core group of 30 there were now 80 regular runners.

She said: “It has been an inspiration and pleasure to watch these members persevere week after week and improve at an amazing rate.

“They have shown a real keen determination and strength to set personal goals, to never give up, and show pride in achieving them.”

People wishing to join in are welcome to go along on a Monday or Wednesday night, where members meet from 6.30pm.

More experienced runners can meet from 7pm on Thursdays for a longer, faster run.
