Hyndburn Tory boss blames his opponent for Accrington decline

Lancashire Telegraph: Hyndburn Tory boss blames his opponent for Accrington decline Hyndburn Tory boss blames his opponent for Accrington decline

HYNDBURN Tory boss Peter Britcliffe has blamed council leader Miles Parkinson for the decline of Accrington town centre in the wake of criticism from a Labour colleague in Blackburn.

Blackburn with Darwen borough finance boss, Andy Kay, told business chiefs last week: “We have to invest. We must not stand still.

“We cannot allow Blackburn to become another Accrington or Hyndburn.”

Coun Kay said this stretched back several years over several different political administrations.

Tory group chief and former borough leader Coun Britcliffe said: “This is the first time I have ever agreed with Andy Kay, but he is dead on when he cites the lack of attention and investment by the Labour group in our town centres.

“I raised the subject of investment in the budget meeting but was ‘pooh-poohed’ by the leader Miles Parkinson.

“He and his deputies are a disgrace. At a time ripe for investment, they are letting the borough rot!”

Coun Kay said: “It’s been a breath of fresh air since Miles and his team took control.

“The co-operation between Hyndburn and Blackburn with Darwen has improved beyond recognition.

“Whilst we are all suffering under this coalition government, we are still working for our communities.”

Britcliffe his the last person to blame anyone for Accrington's decline .

The Tory administration which he headed , and which the voters kicked out , was an absolutely disgraceful shambles .

Why do the Tories in Hyndburn continue to let this political idiot carry on bringing utter discredit on themselves with his vacuous postering ?

You aren't in power now , so Britcliffe can't threaten to take away your portfolios if you get a liitle bit stroppy like he used to threaten you with .

Show some guts and dethrone him .

The LT will always support Britcliffe and include him in every story they can about Ossy or Hyndburn, because they are Tories themselves. All opposition to the Tory monopoly will always be up against it as UK continues to go more and more like USA and their totally right wing aggressive arrogant selfish policies. It's so sad and sick that politics has become a celebrity circus of photo opportunities and sound bites that doesn't have time for sensible, honest discussion. Tories will select PB because he's learned how to massage the system just the way he wants it.

You suggest the Telegraph supports pot Britcliffe: a strange way of doing this I think. The Telegraph has one or two planted stories from kettle Graham Jones in each edition.
