A BRIEFING for anyone wanting to become a borough councillor will be held in Burnley next month.

Borough and European elections are being staged locally on May 22.

The town hall’s election office is offering advice to anyone considering a career in local politics.

The first will take place at Burnley Town Hall, for would-be candidates, on Wednesday, March 5, from 6.30pm. A further session, for prospective councillors and election agents, will be held, at the same venue, on Thursday, March 27.

The briefings will include information on what it means to be a councillor, duties and responsibilities, how to be nominated to stand in the elections and a guide to being a candidate.

The late event will also see nomination information packs being made available to would-be candidates and agents.

Alison Stirling, of the town hall elections office, said: “We’re encouraging anyone interested to come along to these briefing sessions and find out more.

“If you’ve thought about standing as a candidate in the local elections but not been sure how to go about it, these events are for you.”

Nominations close at 4pm on April 24.
