FOODBANKS in the Ribble Valley have changed their name to ‘better reflect the area covered’ by the service.
The two centres in the borough will now both be called Ribble Valley Foodbank, changing from Clitheroe Foodbank.
The centre at Trinity Church, Clitheroe, has been joined by a new centre at St Paul’s Church in Longridge, which opened at the end of January.
The new centre is open every Friday from 11am to 1.30pm. The centre in Clitheroe is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 1.30pm.
Both sites are manned by volunteers from local churches.
Ribble Valley Foodbank manager Ruth Haldane said that around 5,600 meals were distributed and 620 people fed between July 8 last year and January 30.
A permanent collection point has been set up at Clitheroe’s Tesco superstore.
