BURNLEY’S revamped railway station is taking shape ahead of an anticipated March handover.

The iconic blue fin on the Yorkshire-bound platform of the Manchester Road hub is now in place and contracts have recently been handed out by the borough council for trackside work around the station complex.

Work on reinstating the Todmorden Curve – the 500-yard link to enable new services to Manchester -– should be finished after signalling work is completed later this month.

And campaigning is continuing to ensure the promised new city-bound service will be operational as soon as possible, with no rolling stock currently available. Hopes are currently pinned on trains being released when work on the electrification of the Manchester to Liverpool line is completed in December.
