Lancashire Telegraph: Sabden football club plans changing room upgrade Sabden football club plans changing room upgrade

SABDEN Football Club bosses want to give the changing rooms a major refurbishment later this year.

A grant application for £9,000 has been submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council to complete work on the 30-year-old building at the pitch off Pendleside Close.

If the project is given the green light, the club hopes to open up the facility to junior groups, women’s teams and the local schools and youth group.

As part of the work, the changing room’s leaky roof would be fixed and the showers and toilets will be upgraded.

The project has been supported by the parish council, residents and Sabden Primary School and St Mary’s RC Primary School.

The club hopes that if the work is approved, then building can start in the spring.

Manager Simon Fielding, who took over the role in July 2012, said: “It would make a massive difference if the grant is approved.

“The facilities that we have at the moment are out of date and not fit for the wider community to use. “Other groups such as junior and female teams would be able to use the updated changing rooms which would be great.

“It’s about time that they were refurbished and I hope that we are given the money.

“The work would also include improvement to the current path which gets quite boggy at times and it’s difficult for people who need disabled access.”

Coun Richard Newmark, who represents the village on the borough council, said: “It would be a huge boost to the community and the football club. “Other groups could use the new facilities which would benefit everyone. “There has already been a lot of support from within the community for this and I hope that the council are able to approve the grant.”
