BUS passengers in Blackburn and Burnley will be entering the digital age with the launch of revamped double-deckers on the Lancashire Way.

Bosses at Transdev have unveiled a fleet of upgraded vehicles, with a red rose logo, for the 152 service between Preston and Burnley, which also serves Blackburn, Rishton, Clayton-le-Moors, Altham and Padiham.

And the double-deckers, replacing smaller single-deckers on the route, will be fitted with wi-fi, for easier online access for smartphones and tablets.

Red roses were handed out to passengers at relaunch events at Blackburn and Burnley bus stations yesterday.

The digital system was first introduced on the firm’s Witch Way buses, before Christmas, between Nelson, Burnley, Rawtenstall and Manchester.

Richard Jackson, Transdev’s development director, said: “During peak periods many of our passengers found they couldn’t get a seat on buses along this busy route.

“It’s a priority for us to make sure all our customers travel in comfort so we’re pleased to launch bigger buses on The Lancashire Way 152 service that increase capacity, meaning no one should have to stand up for the whole of their journey.”

Silver day tickets, available on other parts of the network, will still be on offer for the 152 service.

The operator has also now rebranded its ‘intercity’ services under the Lancashire Way banner, including the 152, X41 service from Blackburn to Manchester and the Blackburn-Darwen-Bolton 1 buses.
