EAST Lancashire children taking part in a railway educational programme will be able to travel for free, it was announced.

‘Passport to Safe Rail Travel’ was set to launch at St Anne’s and St Joseph’s Primary School in Accrington today.

Two DVDs will be shown to children, who will then visit the town’s train station and spend a day carrying out activities.

The scheme, co-funded by Community Rail Lancashire and Northern Rail, will offer the children free rail travel between Clitheroe and Manchester, and Colne or Burnley Manchester Road and Preston, with a fare-paying adult, until March 31.
