NIGEL Evans is calling for people to join the fight against wildlife crime.

The Ribble Valley MP has signed a Westminster motion in the issue.

He is one of 136 MPs of all parties to support the World Society for the Protection for Animals’ campaign to tackle wildlife crime in the UK.

Mr Evans said: “I am more than happy to support this important cause and feel strongly that the Government needs to take steps to enforce the law on wildlife crime and ensure it is recognised as serious organised crime and is tackled effectively across.

“I echo the words of Environment Secretary Owen Paterson who talked of the increasing threat to security by criminal gangs using wildlife crime to fund their activities.

“I would urge any of my constituents who may be aware of criminal activity involving wildlife to immediately contact the police, for the issue to be tackled head on.”
