BLACKBURN with Darwen Council bosses signed a letter to North West MPs urging them to press the Government over its links with the alcohol industry North West charity Drink Wise has written the letter following an investigation by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) into the influence the industry has had over the Government’s alcohol strategy.

The BMJ published details of 130 meetings between industry representatives and the Government’s health department in the run-up to a decision last July to drop plans for minimum unit pricing.

The letter says the industry has ‘completely undermined what was once a broadly positive government alcohol strategy’ and calls for an investigation into the close relationship between the Government and the industry.

The council passed a motion at the end of 2013 urging government to introduce minimum unit pricing.
