A SCHOOLBOY was taken to hospital after being hit in the face with a stone, police said.

The 14-year-old had been found lying in Pickup Street, Accrington, close to the junction of Spring Street.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital by paramedics, who were called by police at around 2.40pm yesterday.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary said there had been a dispute between two schoolchildren, and one suffered facial injuries after being hit with a stone.

The injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. No-one had been arrested as we went to press last night, but police inquiries were ongoing. The spokesperson could not say which school the victim attended.

Margaret Woods lives in Pickup Street and saw two ambulances pull up outside her home.

The 81-year-old said: “I saw two paramedics crouching down on the ground and I thought, ‘what are they doing?’ “Then another ambulance turned up and I thought somebody must have been in an accident.”

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I have been here for 18 months and it’s not the best place to live I have had my wing mirror kicked off my car and rubbish is always being thrown around. There’s a lot of anti-social behaviour.

“It was a massive mistake moving here.”
