AN independent Blackburn school has pledged its support to our Teen Leaders appeal by donating money it raised at a carol service.

Pupils from Westholme raised more than £260 at their service Blackburn Cathedral.

Head girl Harriet Dagnall and deputy head girl Lucy Horsfield joined principal Lynne Horner in a visit to the £6 million state-of-the-art Youth Zone, in Jubilee Street, to hand over a cheque for £263.60.

Mrs Horner said: “It makes sense for us to support a charity which has the same aims as we do at Westholme.

“Both our organisations have young people at the very centre of what we do, and are committed to supporting young people in achieving their full potential.

“The Youth Zone is truly an inspirational place and we are looking forward to forging closer links going forward.”

Head of business development at the Youth Zone, Julia Wright, said: “We are thrilled to have a partnership with Westholme School. Thanks to everyone there who helped raise money for our appeal which is gathering momentum.

“Fundraising for the appeal is easy and we want the whole community to participate.

“Just get in touch and we’ll support your fundraising efforts.”

The Lancashire Telegraph Teen Leader Appeal aims to create 100 young leaders to be positive role models, and play an active part in our community.

The donation from Westholme School will be spent putting Youth Zone members through the innovative Young Leader programme – an 18-month course with accreditation.
