A 42-YEAR-old man with mental health problems attacked a female friend after going to her house drunk.

Blackburn magistrates heard Jason Gledhill punched his friend, bit her on the nose and tried to bite her eye.

And when he went round the following day to apologise, he again became aggressive and punched her to the back of the head.

Gledhill, of Railway Terrace, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting Jacqueline Greenhalgh.

He was made subject to community supervision for 24 months and ordered to pay £200 compensation and £160 costs.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said after the first incident, Gledhill was taken away by police but Miss Greenhalgh refused to make a formal complaint.

She also refused to forgive Gledhill when he visited the next day.

Peter King, defending, said Gledhill was desperate for the support he was now receiving from the mental health services.
