THE two Stonyhurst College students who fled to the Caribbean last Monday has been found safe and well.
Edward Bunyan, 16 and his girlfriend Indira Gainiyeva, 17, were found at a hotel in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic by local police at 11pm last night.
Lancashire Police have said that plans are currently being made for the pair to return to the UK.
The couple left the 400-year-old school last Monday at 3am and were caught on CCTV at Manchester Airport before boarding an indirect flight to the Caribbean Island.
A Lancashire police spokesman said: “The students have thankfully been located safe and well at a hotel in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic.
“Plans are now being made for their safe return to the UK.
“They will be given a welfare de-brief by police following their arrival back in this country.
“Our priority throughout this has been to ensure the safety and welfare of these students and after they have been spoken to on their return this will signal an end of police involvement in this matter.”
Stonyhurst College headmaster, Andrew Johnson, said: “The whole school community are absolutely delighted and I’m thrilled that they have been found safe and well.”
It is believed that Edward's mother will be travelling back to the UK with the pair.
