Nelson pre-schoolers help promote ‘Smoke Free Homes’

A PRE-school in Nelson has been recognised for promoting the ‘Smoke Free Homes’ initiative, which aims to reduce the harmful effects of second-hand cigarette smoke.

Staff have been raising awareness with parents and carers about the damage second-hand smoke can have on their children and dozens of parents have made ‘promises’ not to smoke in their homes.

Tracy Higson, who has led the project at Brierfield Pre-School, said: “The Smoke Free Homes pledge is an excellent tool and helps guide our conversations with parents and carers on the dangers of second-hand smoke.

We explain how hazardous the 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke are and how they harm children’s small bodies.”
