Terrier thrown from bridge in Clitheroe

Lancashire Telegraph: The bridge where the dog was dropped into the water The bridge where the dog was dropped into the water

A BORDER terrier-type dog was kicked, thrown into a road and dropped off a bridge into a stream.

The RSPCA is urging witnesses to come forward after a man attacked the dog in Waterloo Road, Clitheroe.

The female dog, described as tan and black with some white on her chest, was rescued from the water and the RSPCA called.

The incident happened on Saturday, December 21 at around 11pm and the RSPCA believe that several people witnessed the incident.

The dog is currently being cared for by the animal charity.

RSPCA inspector Katherine Hamblin said: “The dog is now in RSPCA care, but we need anyone who saw this incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“This is reported to have happened on the Saturday night just before Christmas, obviously a very busy night, and we understand there may have been several people who witnessed it.

“Please call the RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 1234 999 and ask to leave a message for me.”

The incident follows a number of other cruelty cases in the area recently.

Last month an abandoned dog found roaming alone in Baxenden, with a leg injury and fur matted with faeces, had to be put down.

The young female springer spaniel was discovered wandering in Manchester Road by two men who took her to the RSPCA Altham Animal Centre.

A vet who examined her found she was pregnant with two puppies.

She was suffering from an infected wound on one of her legs and, at first, it was thought she could be saved.

The RSPCA is now appealing for help to trace anyone who knows how the dog ended up in that condition.

There is obviously something seriously wrong in the heads of scum that do these cruel things to dogs. I hope it recovers well and finds a decent loving home. Has for the scum that did this I hope you have a miserable lonely life.

The "man" should be caught and thrown into the river. Let's see how the scum likes that. Oh and stop his benefits too.

There will be a lot of questions asked around Clitheroe regarding this. The culprit should be aware that there are long waiting times at Blackburn hospital.
