A TEENAGER accused of abducting and molesting an eight-year-old girl has been told to stay out of Burnley and Padiham until his next court date.

The 14-year-old was allowed to collect clothing from his Padiham home before he moves from the area to live with his mother.

But he was told by magistrates sitting at Burnley Youth Court that he will only permitted to come into Burnley for a meeting with his solicitor, Graeme Tindall.

The court heard he had been advised to stay out of the area on police advice.

The teenager was charged with child abduction, sexual assault and common assault after being arrested on Friday.

He appeared before Blackburn magistrates on Saturday, when he was ordered to remain at his grandmother’s home until a youth court yesterday.

Magistrates were told that the correct jurisdiction for the sexual offence, under court protocols, could only be considered by a district judge.

The teenager, who cannot be named because he appeared in a youth court, was remanded on bail to appear before a video link court at Hyndburn on January 23.

District Judge Gerald Chalk, Cumbria’s full-time resident magistrate, will determine the case, from his base in Carlisle.

The 14-year-old was also bailed on condition he does not approach his alleged victim or have any unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 16.

The alleged incident occured at around 1pm on January 2 as the child was playing in Pendle Street.

The girl was said to have been walking to a footbridge between Canning Street and Back Thompson Street before being attacked.
