THE funeral of a former Pendle mayor will take place today.
Alan Evans, who died at the age of 90, was mayor of Nelson in the 1970s before taking on the same role for Pendle in the 80s.
He was first elected as a councillor in 1963 and spent almost 30 years in public office.
Mr Evans was also a governor at the old Nelson Grammar School and Walton High School, as well as at Nelson and Colne College.
His funeral cortege leaves the family home in Leeds Road, Nelson, at 1pm, with the funeral scheduled for 1.40pm at Burnley Crematorium.
This will be followed by a memorial service at 2.45pm at Christ Church, in Carr Road, Nelson.
