BURNLEY fans are showing flab the red card, thanks to a new fitness class.

Burnley Council’s 12-week fitness course, which includes sessions held at Turf Moor by the club’s coaches, is targeted at male supporters aged 18-45 who want to ‘fight the flab’.

And participants will receive a Clarets shirt and free match ticket for taking part - if they lose five per cent of their body fat.

Clarets Fit Fans will provide physical training, including a kickabout at Turf Moor’s indoor pitch.

Mark Bennett, a healthy lifestyle tutor at the council, said: “During the information sessions the guys will be learning about how to read food labels, how to choose healthier takeaways and alcohol and general help with managing their weight.

“Hopefully it will empower them to make better decisions in the long term.

“Each week we will be checking their weight, which will be the main measure of weight loss, but we will also be taking waist measurements.

“The exercise sessions for the footie fans will be a kick about, but the lads will also do circuit training to fight the flab.

“Burnley Football Club are providing a coach for the fitness sessions.” The course, which costs £17 for the 12-week block, can be booked by contacting Beth Baron on 01282 477134
